New Things Freak Us Out

Awhile ago, Mom put a new rug thing on the floor in the human litterbox room. It has penguins on it (like Pingu!). There used to just be a plain blue rug there, and when we first saw the penguin rug, we were 'fraid of it. We were just doin' our normal routine, followin' the beans around, but when we tried to go into the human litterbox room, there was this weird new thing on the floor! We had to creep around and go into the room really really slowly, to make sure it was safe. Also, if Mom or Dad is wearin' a hat or looks different for some reason, we get all puffy-tailed and scared 'til we realize it's them. We were just wonderin' if this happens to any of you too?

Yeah, new things bother us too, but we end up being brave and inspecting it. We cats just don't like anything in our routine changed!!

Yes sometimes new things bother us and we creep around them. This always makes Mom laugh, but we don't think it's funny ~Poiland Tribe

Yep. Even when the new things lose their "newness" ... Pumpkin STILL leaps over the carpet in the doorway to the master bedroom ... STILL!

Yes. My humans used to have a fluffy white rug in the living room. I hated it and would walk all round it rather than ever put my paws on it. And if they picked me up and stood me on it, I would jump off it quickly. Then they replaced that rug eventually with a blue and green non-fluffy one. I really like the new rug and I sleep on it with my Scratchy Mouse all the time.

Yup! It's always better to be safe.
I am always vewy careful about new things too because you never know if they could turn vishus.
And mine mummy's too stupid to see if anything's vishus, so I got to do the checking for her!

New things bother me a little bit. But what really scares me are invisible things! Those are horrifying and my tail gets big and I smack them then jump backwards in the air, smack them, jump backwards over and over again. But it's hard to hit them 'cause they're invisible!! Oh, and one time I was really afraid of a bean that dropped on the floor.

But other than invisible things and beans, I'm very brave!

Sometimes when I can see something scary and the beans can't that wigs THEM out. They think I see stuff they don't. I'm just playing head games...
We're thinking of Aunt Tippy and her people today.

I don't like new things either. Actually, I think all humans ought to ask the Cats' permission before changing things around. It ought to be in the Rules.

My brother's woofie used to throw a fit every time my brother came into the house wearing his motorcycle helmet. She never got used to it.

Cocoa and Grr both do that. In fact, we had to get rid of our water fountain because Cocoa was still afraid of it after 6 months. When I see something new, I run right over to check it out.
