All I can remember is they burn a big stuffed doll thing and do fireworks! It was cause of some kind of rebellion.
Mama was at a Guy Fawkes celebration a few years ago.
Mom googled it for me and this is what she found out: November 5th marks the anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot, a conspiracy to blow up the English Parliament and King James I in 1605, the day set for the king to open Parliament. The anniversary was named after Guy Fawkes, the most famous of the conspirators. The unfortunate conspirator Fawkes appears before his intended victim. Uprising of English Catholics. It was intended to be the beginning of a great uprising of English Catholics, who were distressed by the increased severity of penal laws against the practice of their religion. It's a British Catholic holiday, so now we'll know for all our UK friends! COOL!! (Now getting his drink of cool water)
Ooh, James the first was king after Elizabeth I. Mama just finished a book about her. Henry the VII rebelled against the Catholic church, and they established the Church of England, and Elizabeth was also protestant. James I was her cousin in Scotland who inherited the throne from her. He was also protestant. Her sister Mary (Bloody Mary) was catholic, as well as Mary Queen of Scots.

Elizabeth's sister Mary was Bloody Mary, and she tried to re-establish the Catholic faith pretty harshly (thus the Bloody part). She didn't last long. Elizabeth took over. Mary Queen of Scots was their cousin, and Elizabeth ended up having her executed for treason. She was catholic, but James was raised by protestants. Ever heard of the King James Bible. Yup. That king.

My mama, too. Her English history hero was Alfred the Great, in the Saxon period. Perhaps, they say, just after Arthur.
That's why she joined the medieval group. And took up archery for a while and fencing.And she learned how to do caligraphy and play the recorder.

Hi! I'm sorry I missed you leaving Eric, Happy Guy Fawkes Day. Wow, it looks like the party is still going strong. My mommy is an American Civil War Reenactor with the 5th Ohio Light Artillary Unit (Union!). She dresses up in a corset (ouch, beans are soooo weird) and helps educate people on American history. She also loves World History. She reads a lot about England because the English colonized America at the pury beginning. She'd love to go see London and tour the country.

I've heard of ghost kitties. As long as they are as nice as my bloggy friends, I'm OK with that. Mommy's ghost woofies come to visit sometimes and that makes her happy.

Mama loved the underground (the tube or subway) in London. It was the fastest way to get anywhere.

My OTW watches those all the time too. They're kinda gross, but so long as she plays with me and my guts while she watching, I let her watch them anyway.

By the way Jack, mommy goes through phases with TV. It is ET for a couple months, the All My Children for a while, CSI then she takes breaks, I don't know why.
She always watches Boston Legal, Ellen (she DVRs it), Ghost Hunters and The Office.
Our mom likes those forensics shows too. She reads books 'bout that stuff too sometimes. We agree, Jack, they are kinda gross.

We watch all the Law and Order shows. And usually the original CSI. And, of course, she tapes Eastenders.
We checked in with our human while we were getting a water break and the were sufficiently watered themselves.
Oh yes, I should've been specific (in our mind there is only one CSI) and said the original CSI.

Yeah, I'm supposed to talk to Smudge. But my OTW sent the e-mail to Smudge's Mom just before they found out Smudge was sick, so I wasn't going to worry about it right now, they have far more important things to worry about right now.
Oh yeah, that's right, we forgot Smudge's Mom is the one who adds efurryone. Poor Smudge and his beans, they do have other things to worry about, we're sure you'll get added eventually. We just wanted to make sure at least you knew 'bout it.
